Training in Guatemala, Nov. 2019

Marciana Popescu, Ph.D and Dana Alonzo, Ph.D, the two ISWS social work volunteers who traveled to urban Guatemala City and Peronia, Guatemala for a train-the-trainers program for teachers, mental health providers and nurses, focusing on suicide awareness, signs and symtoms of depression and violence prevention. The results were very exciting with all particpants exhibiting that they learned quite a bit by discussing examples of cases where they implemented information gleaned from the trainings. The participants, with ISWS volunteers assistance, plan on preparing a basic mental health manual for all in the area schools to use. Excellent outcomes for all involved.
