The team of Stacey Schamber, MSW., and Hannah Taverna, MSW spent two weeks in Guatemala City conducting group and individual interviews for a Comprehensive Community Needs Assessment. ISWS partnered with Hunger Relief International (HRI), a US-based NGO doing work in Guatemala, who were interested in understanding more about the population of children, teens, and families in the community of El Limon with the goal of providing excellent and relevant programming for this population. ISWS volunteer social workers spent two weeks in-country learning about families, children, teens, government officials, medical personnel, teachers, volunteers, and in-country staff and collecting a mountain of information for collating. Ms. Schamber and Ms. Taverna wrote an extensive report with recommendations for future programming in this community.
